Manchester United Considering Approach To Make Gareth Southgate Their Permanent Manager

Do not rub your eyes. England manager Gareth Southgate has been added to Manchester United’s managerial shortlist.

That’s right. The famous waistcoat could be about to play a huge role at Old Trafford in the near future.

United are reportedly concerned that Mauricio Pochettino will stay at Tottenham Hotspur this summer, so they are considering an approach for Southgate, according to a report The Telegraph.

The report also reveals that Zinedine Zidane is on United’s list of possible candidates to succeed former boss Jose Mourinho.

Southgate signed a new contract with England in October last year after a successful World Cup campaign in Russia, and is said to be committed to the national team.

Whether he would be attracted to the job at Old Trafford is yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile the highly-rated Pochettino, who has been heavily linked with the post at Old Trafford, looks increasingly likely to stay on at Spurs for the foreseeable future.

He was quoted as saying: “I hope, or I wish, to be here 20 years and decide to leave or to finish my career here,”

Last month, It was reported that Manchester United chiefs believe Pochettino was the only contender to replace Mourinho, but it looks like they may have to look elsewhere.

United also face competition to bring Pochettino on board, with Real Madrid also reportedly interested.

That being said the Red Devils are clearly determined to get their man, and believe they can sell the club as the most ‘attractive proposition’ to Poch.
