Real Madrid have dropped interest in Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen following Frenkie De Jong’s €75million move to La Liga rivals Barcelona, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
The Premier League midfielder has been on Real’s transfer radar for some time, especially since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in the summer.
Eriksen has been instrumental for Spurs since he was bought for a bargain £11.5million in 2013.
However, his future at the London club has been in doubt after he apparently refused a new deal at the club.
But Spurs fans will be happy to see that Madrid have cooled their interest in the midfielder. AS believe Barcelona’s big money signing will inflate the market in the short term.
Any move for Eriksen in this window – or the next – will be met with, what Real believe to be, an extortionate price.
But the 13-time Champions League Winners will be calling out for a stellar signing soon to help bring results after star man Ronaldo left the club to join Juventus in the Serie A last summer.
It’s been a dismal season by their winning standards. They currently sit fourth, way behind rivals and league leaders Barcelona.
Tottenham fans have also been calling-out for investment. They became the first Premier League side to make ZERO summer signings since 2003.
Keeping Eriksen at the club for the considerable future will feel like a signing in itself, but Spurs fans have every right to criticise their club’s tight-fisted transfer policy.
Tottenham fans, how many signings will it take to make your team title contenders again? And who would you like to see join?
